PW Comms were called out to a network fault at Knutsford High School to deal with some of hungry squirrels who chose to ditch the nuts for a high fibre diet!
After sections of the main school network went down, the PW Comms engineers began to investigate the potential causes of the problem. With 80% of network faults resulting in poor cabling, Top structured cabling specialist Dave Healey traced the fault after scurrying round in the bushes. He found an interior network cable running outside, through a group of acorn trees bridging two buildings to the main building network. The cable wasn’t an exterior armoured cable and hadn’t been placed in any containment therefore, was prone to damage.
After closer inspection the fibre optic cable had been chewed, by the trees local residence; the Grey squirrel.

After choosing to munch their way through this cable, maybe Jamie Olivers low fat high fibre diet in schools is working?
The fibre optic cable has now been replaced, reinstating the network bridge between the two buildings. Unfortunately for the squirrels they will have to go back to a diet of acorns and other nuts, because I don’t think even Jaws could get his teeth through the newly added armoured cable.
